Report: Jerod Mayo Suffers Sprained MCL, Expected to Miss Several Weeks

When linebacker Jerod Mayo fell to the turf at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on Sunday, Patriots fans had to hold their breath. They may now need to hold it for a few weeks.

Mayo suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee and could miss up to six weeks, according to the Boston Herald's Ian Rapoport. CSNNE's Tom E. Curran also reported that the injury would not end Mayo's season.

There was no contact on Mayo's knee on the play immediately preceding the injury, so it's unclear how or when, exactly, the damage was done. He did suffer an MCL injury on his other knee in 2009 and only missed three weeks.

On Monday, Bill Belichick said he was "not going to make a guess" as to how long Mayo will be out.
