The trade that would have sent Jerome Harrison to the Eagles and Ronnie Brown to the Lions has been voided after doctors discovered a brain tumor in Harrison during a routine physical, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
Per league rules, all trades involving players are not complete until team doctors have had a chance to evaluate the player during a physical. Eagles team doctors discovered Harrison's tumor during the examination.
Although the news is devastating, the now nullified trade could have saved Harrison's life. Without the proposed trade — which would have sent Brown to Detroit and Harrison and an undisclosed pick to Philadelphia — it is unlikely Harrison's tumor would have been discovered in a timely manner.
The 28-year-old Harrison had 14 carries for 41 yards this season for the Lions. According to Schefter, Harrison will not play the remainder of the season, but is receiving treatment and has a positive long-term prognosis. He will meet with more doctors on Thursday.
