Paralyzed Rutgers Football Player Eric LeGrand Leads Team on to Field in Wheelchair (Video)

Eric LeGrand was able to join the Rutgers’ football team on the field.

LeGrand was paralyzed from the neck down after facturing two vertebrae in his neck last October while trying to make a tackle. On Saturday, he led the Scarlet Knights out of the team’s tunnel and on to the field prior to Rutgers’ game against West Virginia.

“I think it’s the perfect time to fire up the team, inspire the crowd and hopefully lead us to a victory,” LeGrand said earlier in the week during a radio interview, according to The Los Angeles Times.

LeGrand was escorted by his teammates and held an ax, a testament to Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano‘s motto, “keep chopping.”

Just a week ago, Rutgers witnessed another gruesome injury when Louisville cornerback Anthony Conner broke his neck. LeGrand, who is now a radio analyst for Rutgers, offered support to Conner via Twitter.

“Praying for the Louisville DB,” LeGrand tweeted.
