Tiger Woods‘ third caddie, Joe LaCava, is no stranger to the golf course, having caddied for Fred Couples and Dustin Johnson in the past. But as he’s finding out, Woods isn’t like his other two employers.
A caddie’s job is to assist the golfer any way he can, including the obvious carrying of the bag and offering advice. But at the Frys.com Open, the first tournament LaCava and Woods worked together, Woods told LaCava that he would not be asking for any help regarding club selection or reading putts, The Associated Press reports.
Instead, he asked that LaCava just go along for the ride and observe him for a week to get a better feel for his game. Woods also made it clear that golf towels are not part of that game.
“When it rained on Thursday, we had four towels in the bag,” Woods said. “I’ve never seen four towels in my golf bag. Well, Freddie [Couples]Â doesn’t use gloves, so out of habit, he just had all these towels in the bag. I was like, ‘What the hell are you doing with all these towels?’ So I said, ‘We don’t need that many towels.'”
Woods has entered into three more tournaments this year, and LaCava will reportedly be called upon to play more of a role each week.
