Matt Cassel Has ‘Significant’ Hand Injury, Chiefs Quarterback Could Miss Remainder of Season

It was supposed to be a bittersweet return for Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel, a Gillette Stadium homecoming against the team that drafted him, the New England Patriots.

Instead, however, it could be the bitter end for his season.

Chiefs head coach Todd Haley told reporters on Monday that Cassel sustained a "significant" hand injury that could require surgery, and could ultimately end his season. The obvious side bar to that would be that Cassel will not suit up for the Monday Night Football showdown between the Chiefs and Patriots.

Haley also told the media that Tyler Palko will start Monday's game against New England. In two seasons in the league, Palko has completed nine of 13 career pass attempts for 82 yards and no touchdowns. Palko has been sacked twice.
