The Jerry Sandusky scandal continues to capture headlines, and the Pennsylvania state department of children and youth services has now opened an investigation into allegations of child sex abuse by the former Penn State assistant coach, according to The Patriot-News of Harrisburg.

The two cases, which were reported in the last two months and are separate from the police investigation surrounding Sanudsky, would reportedly be the first to involve persons who are currently under age 18. Because the persons are under age 18, it requires the children's agency to get involved.

Adults have reportedly come forward as part of the other publicly known cases. Such adult allegations of abuse are handled by police in Pennsylvania, even if the alleged abuse took place when the person making the accusations was a child.

Sandusky has been accused of molesting eight boys over a 15-year period, although he's maintained his innocence since the allegations were made.
