Chicago Cubs outfielder Tony Campana was named the 2011 Tony Conigliaro Award winner on Friday.
Campana, who overcame Hodgkin's lymphoma, will be given the award as the major league player "who has overcome adversity through the attributes of spirit, determination and courage that were trademarks of Tony C."
He will be presented with the award at the Boston Baseball Writers' Association of America dinner on Jan. 19.
Campana was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma and wasn't declared cured until 10 years later.
After beginning the year in the minors, Campana was called up to Chicago during the 2011 season. From there, he played in 95 games hitting .259 with a home run and six RBIs.
Red Sox outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury and Diamondbacks third baseman Sean Burroughs finished second and third, respectively.
