Roberto Luongo’s Services Put on Craigslist, Goalie Needs ‘New Tires’ Because They’re Not Being Pumped

On Monday, the surprising news came out that the Canucks are apparently open to the idea of trading Roberto Luongo.

Luongo, 32, is a former captain of the Canucks and makes $5.33 million a year, so it’s somewhat surprising to see him on the trading block. However, he’s been thoroughly outplayed by former Boston College standout Cory Schneider, who makes less than $1 million per year, so general manager Mike Gillis is doing his due diligence.

And that has led to some folks having a little bit of fun.

A Craigslist ad popped up on Monday in Boston, posted by someone claiming to be Gillis, saying he’s willing to trade Luongo. Greg Wyshysnki of Yahoo!’s Puck Daddy tweeted the link.

“This goalie typically does well except under any sort of pressure [See Playoffs],” the ad says. “He does make a lot of noise, but usually doesn’t back it up. He will need new tires as currently no one is pumping them and thus they are deflated. Like I said he is in used condition but could potentially be someone who could pump up the tires of your opposing goalie. “

And what is this fake Gillis looking for in return for Luongo, the four-time All-Star and Olympic gold medal winner?

“We here at Vancouver could use a lot,” the ad says. “Possibly babysitting services for our Sedin sisters, or maybe even a few street sweepers [Stanley Cup really did a number on our city].”

The ad was completed with a few pictures of Luongo, including one of the netminder firmly planted in the paint.

You could make an easy case that such a thing is disrespectful, or “classless” (most overused buzzword in sports these days), or just plain pathetic, but it’s hard to look at it and not believe Luongo brought it all upon himself last June when he went out and criticized the best goalie on the planet.
