It did not take long for slugging first baseman Carlos Pena to return to the AL East and now he rejoins his former club — the Tampa Bay Rays.

Pena will be making $7.5 million in this deal, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.

He played for the Rays from 2007-10 before signing a one-year deal with the Chicago Cubs in 2011.

His struggled at the plate with the Cubs in 2011, hitting just .225, but managed 28 home runs and 80 RBIs.

With the Rays, Pena was able to make the All-Star team back in 2009 and finished in the top 10 of MVP voting in both 2007 and 2008. He cranked 144 homers in the four years, but hit just .196 in 2010, forcing the Rays to part ways with the Northeastern alum.
