The fifth edition of the marquee midseason matchup will take place Monday in Philadelphia, where the Flyers will host the New York Rangers at Citizens Bank Park. That will be the third baseball venue turned temporarily into a hockey mecca, with two football stadiums also getting transformed into rinks of dreams by NHL ice guru Dan Craig since the start of the New Year's tradition in Buffalo in 2008.
The Winter Classic has become a cottage industry of its own, with alumni, college and other assorted games and public skates taking place on the temporary rinks and HBO's fabulous inside look at the team involved in its 24/7 series providing weeks' worth of hype leading into the matchup.
