Josh Hamilton gave his first media interview since his relapse with alcohol when he spoke with Pastor James Robison on The Glenn Beck Program on Wednesday afternoon.
The Texas Rangers outfielder discussed his struggles with addiction and the road he's taken to try and get back on the right track.
Hamilton, a former No. 1 pick, nearly lost his chance to play in the major leagues due to a string of drug- and alcohol-related occurrences. After working to get clean, Hamilton became one of the best players in the majors, winning the American League MVP in 2010.
However, his relapse in Dallas was his second since 2009, and he hopes to work hard to fight his demons.
"The mistakes I've made, I don't want to sit on them," Hamilton said. "I don't want to hide in the house and not talk to the media and shut down completely from the outside world, because I am on this stage for a reason. I am a regular person."
During the interview, Hamilton said that he wasn't cured of his problems, but he states that he is learning from his mistakes and is undergoing a "spiritual reprogramming."
"I can always use prayer from people," Hamilton said.
