Report: Xherdan Shaqiri Leans Toward Bayern Munich Move, Germans Preferred Over Manchester United

Sir Alex Ferguson can cross Xherdan Shaqiri off Manchester United’s wish list. The Metro is reporting that the FC Basel midfielder wants to sign with Bayern Munich instead of United.

Shaqiri was on the Basel team that knocked United out of the UEFA Champions League this season, and apparently Ferguson has been keeping tabs on the 20-year-old midfielder.

Ferguson did not make a bid for Shaqiri during the January transfer window, and that may prove costly if United want the Basel star.

Erdin Shaqiri is the older brother and agent of Xherdan. The Swiss international’s brother said United’s chance to snag the Basel player has probably passed.

“Right now, Basel is the best club for Xherdan,” “Erdin Shaqiri told Basler Zeitung. “But it is clear he can only develop further abroad.

“He must take the step this summer, because to play four seasons in the Swiss league against the same teams won’t help him develop.”

Despite the younger brother having “indicated” that he would rather play in Germany, his agent admitted, “Munich have not yet contacted me about Xherdan.”
