Report: Tom Brady’s Restructured Contract Saves Patriots $7.2 Million in Cap Space

If the Patriots want to make another move or two, they now have the extra cap space to try.

Tom Brady has restructured his contract, Brian McIntyre of Mac's Football Blog reports, freeing up $7.2 million in cap space.

The value of Brady's four-year, $72 million contract extension -– signed in September 2010 -– remains the same, but the restructuring mostly moves the money around so the Patriots have more flexibility when this year’s cut will be paid.

The 2013 and 2014 cap numbers for Brady now go up $3.6 million a season, giving his salary a $21.8 million hit against the team’s cap space in those years.
