Report: Patriots Hire Former Quarterback Chris Simms as Coaching Assistant

The Patriots have brought in a quarterback, but don’t expect a Tim Tebow-size controversy in New England.

Chris Simms, who played quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans, has been hired to help with coaching duties, Ian R. Rapoport of the Boston Herald reports. Simms was also a backup passer in Denver.

Simms, 31, who went to the University of Texas before being drafted in 2003 and playing in 23 games in the NFL from 2004 to 2009, is the son of quarterback Phil Simms, who played for the Giants when New England coach Bill Belichick was defensive coordinator there.
