Few would dispute that Mariano Rivera is the greatest closer — and likely reliever — of all time. However, his blown save on Opening Day raised a few eyebrows and a few questions.
Rivera, who holds the MLB record for career saves, has been shutting the door on the ninth inning for 18 years, but some early struggles could signal that the end is near for the 42-year-old closer. Sure, Rivera is coming off another stellar season, but just how long can he continue to defy the odds and retire batters with essentially one pitch?
