Patrice Bergeron Looking a Lot Like Milan Lucic After Suffering Broken Nose, But Not Sure That’s a Good Thing

BOSTON – Playing with a painful oblique injury, Patrice Bergeron definitely didn't feel like himself this postseason.

Thanks to a hit by Washington forward Alexander Semin in Game 5, Bergeron didn't end up looking much like himself either.

Bergeron said the oblique injury left him at about "60 percent of what I usually am." The missing 40 percent may have been added to his nose, which was broken on the collision with Semin.

That left Bergeron looking a bit like teammate Milan Lucic with his crooked beak. Bergeron insisted he wasn't copying Lucic's look on purpose, but the resemblance has been noted by others.

"I do get that once in a while though," Bergeron said. "People call me 'Looch' in the street.

"I don't know if I should take it as a compliment or not," Bergeron added with a smile.

While Lucic had surgery on his nose last summer to ease his breathing after suffering multiple breaks over the course of his career, Bergeron won't need any procedures done on his. At least not at this point.

"No, everything's fine," Bergeron said. "It's not the last time it will happen either. At the end of my career I'll get it fixed, but so far the breathing didn't really get worse. It's more the swelling, but nothing's misplaced or anything like that."

Just as time and rest will get his oblique back to 100 percent, Bergeron's nose should return to normal once the swelling subsides. And then there will be no more Lucic doppelgängers roaming the streets to fool unsuspecting Bruins fans.
