Red Sox to Honor Tim Wakefield with ‘Thanks, Wake Day’ on May 15

Less than three months after retiring, the Red Sox already miss Tim Wakefield.

The team announced Friday they will celebrate the career of the former Red Sox knuckleballer prior to the May 15 game against the Mariners at Fenway Park. The first pitch is set for 4:05 p.m., and ceremonies will begin at 3:30.

Wakefield, who spent 17 of his 19 MLB seasons with Boston, ranks second in victories in Red Sox history with 186. Only Roger Clemens and Cy Young, who are tied with 192, have more.
