Alex Rodriguez has been keeping his nose clean for a while, but he couldn't pull one over on a dog trained to sniff out trouble.

The Yankees third baseman was part of a pregame ceremony on Sunday for Marine Cpl. Megan Leavey, who received a Purple Heart after several tours of duty in Iraq. Leavey had been teamed up with Sgt. Rex, a German Shepherd, for more than 100 missions where they detected roadside bombs.

Yankees outfielder Nicker Swisher gave Leavey a jersey autographed by the team, and then Rodriguez stepped forward to hand her a Tiffany's charm.

But Rex wouldn't have any of it, the Daily News reports.

The canine jumped in front of Leavey, perhaps protecting the Marine from Rodriguez. Or maybe Rex just wanted the heart-shaped charm. Either way, A-Rod was spooked, and he jumped back before moving forward again to hand over the gift.

See Rodriguez's reaction in the photo below.
