Derek Lowe has pitched in 194 career games at Fenway Park. Of those games, 53 of them have been starts. Only one of those starts has come as a member of the opposition.
That number will grow to two on Thursday night when the veteran right-hander leads the Indians into Boston to take on the Red Sox in the first of four games between Cleveland and Boston.
Lowe's only other start as the road starter at Fenway Park came back in 2009 when Lowe squared off with Boston right-hander Josh Beckett, who just so happens to be the scheduled starter for the Sox on Thursday night.
Beckett and the Sox got the best of Lowe and the Atlanta Braves on June 20 of that season, as Boston was able to get a 3-0 win in front of a sellout crowd at Fenway.
Lowe didn't necessarily pitch poorly, going 6 1/3 innings allowing all three runs on seven hits while striking out a pair and walking one. On the other side, it was an absolute gem for Beckett. He went the distance, throwing a five-hitter and striking out seven in one of his best starts with the Red Sox.
Lowe is 42-24 with a 3.14 ERA in those 194 career Fenway Park appearances. Lowe also collected 39 saves over the course of seven-plus seasons in Boston.
