Magic Johnson and Matt Kemp are a match made in Heaven for Los Angeles.
Johnson –– the team's new owner and former Lakers point guard–– and Kemp –– the Dodgers' All-Star outfielder –– were paired together for a photo shoot recently as they will both be on the cover of Sports Illustrated.
In their own ways, they both bridge the dynamic between sports talent and entertainment. Johnson was a five-time NBA championship who is also a constant presence on the big screen and in television as well.
Kemp, meanwhile, is capitalizing on his celebrity. The 27-year-old is en route to becoming a perennial All-Star while also getting attention in the entertainment industry with his brief dalliance with R&B singer Rihanna.
It's Hollywood at its finest. Once the season ends, Kemp has already issued a challenge to play a game of one-on-one basketball with his owner. Who wouldn't want to see that after the season?
That star power could be valuable in reeling in free agents. With Kemp and Johnson courting potential signees in meetings, it would be hard to walk away from an opportunity to align with the pair.
They simply bring too much allure to Major League Baseball. And the union for the Sports Illustrated photo shoot is the first of many ways that Kemp and Johnson will steal the spotlight in Los Angeles.
