New Jersey Man Arrested After Allegedly Attacking High School Ballplayer Because of a Foul Ball

A high school baseball game in New Jersey took an ugly turn on Monday, and not because of anything that happened between the foul lines.

Forty-four-year-old Michael Bennett of Scotch Plains, N.J., is facing charges of simple assault after he allegedly forcefully grabbed a player from Union Catholic High School and screamed at him to get off his property, reports MyCentralJersey.com. The player's apparent transgression? Making his way onto Bennett's property to grab a foul ball.

Police said that the player, an 18-year-old senior whom they and school officials declined to identify, had a visible scratch from the alleged attack.

A 25-minute delay ensued after the police were called and Bennett was taken away. He was later released on his own recognizance.
