Source: Patriots Sign Seventh-Round Draft Pick Alfonzo Dennard

The Patriots have locked up their third draft pick.

Cornerback Alfonzo Dennard signed a four-year deal Thursday, according to a source, and the money was called “standard” for a seventh-round draft pick under the new rookie salary scale. All rookies sign four-year contracts, per the collective bargaining agreement, but first-round picks are subject to team options for a fifth season.

Dennard, a Nebraska product, was viewed as a second-round prospect before the draft. However, he allegedly punched a police officer the week prior to the draft, and he’s facing charges for the incident. Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said he was still “comfortable” enough with Dennard to draft him.

The Patriots have also signed second-rounder Tavon Wilson and seventh-rounder Jeremy Ebert.
