Ron Paul is usually in the news for his libertarian policies. He was the center of attention for a different reason Thursday night.

Paul, the 76-year-old Republican representative from Texas, was inducted into the CQ Roll Call Congressional Baseball Hall of Fame this year and was on hand to throw out the first pitch at the 51st Annual Congressional Baseball Game at Nationals Park on Thursday. Paul took the mound wearing the Astros’ infamous “Tequila Sunrise” jersey of the 1970s and 1980s before delivering the pitch to his son, Rand, a Republican senator from Kentucky.

The jersey had special meaning to the elder Paul, as it is the same one in which he hit the first out-of-the-park home run in a Congressional baseball game, a shot down the left-field line at Four Mile Run Park in Alexandria, Va., in 1979. Paul, who was 43 at the time, hit the dinger off former representative Ron Mottl of Ohio.

Paul, who batted .294 with six RBIs and six runs scored in seven Congressional contests, could not help inspire his Republican colleagues, as the Democrats pulled away for an easy 18-5 win.
