Radio Show Encourages Celtics Fans to Wear Tim Donaghy Masks to Game 3 to Protest Officiating

It’s no secret that the officiating in the 2012 NBA playoffs has been questionable. Many of those questions seem directly related to the Miami Heat.

People around the country have been so upset with the way the NBA has done things lately that they have even thrown out conspiracy theories, insisting the league has the playoffs “fixed” for Miami to make it to the championship. All conspiracy theories aside, the numbers have certainly not been in the Boston Celtics’ favor as of late.

The Celtics received five technical fouls in Game 1, many of which seemed unwarranted — while Miami didn’t receive any. Ray Allen got a technical for expressing his displeasure with a call through an overt facial expression while walking away from an official, and head coach Doc Rivers even got a technical for saying “Come on, Eddie” to referee Ed Malloy.

Fans had plenty to complain about after Game 2, as well. The Celtics only shot 29 free throws, to the Miami Heat’s 47.The referees also missed a call in overtime, as Rajon Rondo was hit across the face while going up for a layup.

One Boston radio show is encouraging fans to make a statement to the league about their complaints. The Toucher & Rich Show made a request on Friday morning that Celtics fans wear Tim Donaghy masks to Game 3 agains the Miami Heat.

Donaghy, a former NBA referee, is well-known for betting on games that he officiated in and making calls to affect the point spread of games.
