Adrian Gonzalez Named AL Player of the Week

Adrian Gonzalez has been on a tear lately, and the league is taking notice.

Gonzo was named the American League Player of the Week and will hold the honor until July 22nd. The Red Sox first baseman certainly deserves the honor after finding his offensive rhythm and making a drastic turnaround at the plate.

Overall, Gonzalez is batting .269 with a .337 on-base percentage. He has 9 home runs and 58 RBI on the season, but it was his solid play over the course of the week that earned him the honor.

The 30-year-old slugger batted .429, going 12-for-28, with three homers and five runs scored to earn the award. He led the AL in RBIs with 12,tied for first in home runs, second in hits (12) and sixth in batting average.

Gonzalez was clutch all throughout the White Sox series, most notably during the opener when he launched a three-run, eighth-inning bomb over the Monster to break a 1-1 stalemate and put the Sox in prime position to eventually snag a 5-1 victory.

Let's hope this isn't the last time this season that we see Gonzo put up the type of numbers needed to be recognized as AL Player of the Week.
