Hope Solo Admits to Drunken Today Show Interview (Video)

Hope Solo generates as much publicity for her actions off the field as her sprawling saves on it. The American goalkeeper admitted to ESPN the Magazine that she and her teammates were drunk during a Today Show interview at the 2008 Olympics, according to Business Insider.

After beating Brazil to win the gold medal, the Americans celebrated into the wee hours of the morning. They were apparently still drunk during their interview, which took place the next morning.

"When we were done partying, we got out of our nice dresses, got back into our stadium coats and, at 7 a.m., with no sleep, went on the Today Show drunk. Needless to say, we looked like hell!" said Solo.

Ironically, the former Dancing with the Stars contestant and her tipsy teammates appear to be the height of eloquence in comparison to stammering interviewer Meredith Vieira. Vieira's excuse is as of yet unknown.

Solo's quotes come on the heels of her "public warning" from the USADA after she tested positive for the banned substance Canrenone. Fortunately for the Americans, the drug was prescribed by her doctor and is not considered to be performance enhancing — meaning Solo will be allowed to participate in this summer's Olympic games.
