On Saturday, as the Celtics welcomed free agents Jason Terry, Jeff Green, Brandon Bass and Chris Wilcox to new deals, the team also announced that Garnett had been officially re-signed.
The Celtics did not share the terms of the deal per team policy, but Garnett is expected to get about $34 million over three years.
"We are ecstatic that Kevin will continue his career with the Celtics," Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said in a news release. "Kevin has greatly changed the culture since he first put on a Celtics jersey, and he has come to embody everything that we want in a Celtic."
Garnett appeared to be just as pleased to return, with the news release noting with much exuberance that he said "I'm more than happy and I'm excited to be back!"
Garnett, the league MVP in 2003-04, has been an All-Star 13 times in his 17-year NBA career. He averaged 15.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.0 blocks for the Celtics last season.
