Mets GM Sandy Alderson Upset That Pablo Sandoval’s Nickname Got Him Into All-Star Game Over David Wright

Pablo Sandoval was voted in as a starter for the National League All-Star team this year, despite having only played in 45 games while battling injuries. That's rubbing Mets general manager Sandy Alderson the wrong way.

Alderson tweeted on Tuesday that it might have been Sandoval's nickname — and not his play this year — that got him voted in.

"ASG election of 'Kung Fu Panda' shows the value of a cute nickname," Alderson said. "Surprised Giants fans didn't elect a 'ball dude' to start at 3B."

Sandoval missed a little over a month of the season after undergoing hand surgery, while Alderson's third baseman, David Wright, has been stellar for the Mets all year long. The "ball dude" from San Francisco has yet to record an appearance so far in 2012.
