This isn't exactly how Will Middlebrooks saw the 2012 season playing out.
The Red Sox rookie third baseman wasn't sure how much time he'd spend in the major leagues, if he'd make it there at all after being slated to start the season down in Pawtucket. However, when Kevin Youkilis went down early in the season with an injury, the club turned to Middlebrooks to fill the hole at third base.
That was the start of a fun ride for Middlebrooks.
After being called up from Triple-A, Middlebrooks put on a show forcing the organization's hand. The club eventually dealt Youkilis to Chicago, and Middlebrooks found himself as the starting third baseman for the Red Sox.
The rookie's bat eventually cooled, but he's doing all he can to get back to where he was when he was first called up. He's started to heat up some as of late, and he showed that by hitting a missile into the Monster on Monday night against the Tigers.
NESN.com's Didier Morais caught up with Middlebrooks to talk about the whirlwind of a season. Hear that below.
