Derek Lowe Designated for Assignment by Cleveland Indians

Former Red Sox pitcher Derek Lowe has been designated for assignment by the Cleveland Indians.

After beginning the season strong, the 39-year-old sinkerballer has faltered down the stretch. Once 6-1 with a league-leading 2.05 ERA, Lowe is now 8-10 with a 5.52 ERA. His last time out, he only lasted 2 1/3 innings while giving up seven earned runs to the Royals.

According to the team, the move will take place on Wednesday to make room on the roster for pitcher Corey Kluber.

Lowe, who pitched for the Red Sox from 1997-2004, has lost four straight starts for the Indians.
