Hope Solo Details All-Night Benders in Las Vegas, Kissing Girls in New Book

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the real Hope Solo.

One of USA women’s soccer darlings recently released Solo: A Memoir of Hope — an autobiography that contains some interesting details about her life. Solo isn’t just some straight-edged jock, as she admits to once making out with a French girl who kept flirting with her.

“I’d had gay teammates throughout my career — I thought maybe I should see their side of things,” she wrote. “So we made out. Interesting but not life-changing. I was straight.”

She also gets into detail about her troublesome youth, growing up in a family with many harsh problems. Her father was once homeless and had many run-ins with the law, and her mother struggled with alcoholism.

On the soccer field, things weren’t much easier for the goalkeeper. Not only has she had a rough relationship with star Abby Wambach, she also had a rocky relationship with her former national team head coach, Greg Ryan.

“If I had made a list of all the people I thought might coach the national team, Greg Ryan would probably have been dead last. … He mostly faded into the background, rarely talking and never taking charge at practice. If he had any leadership skills or technical savvy, I never saw it.”
