Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Statue To Grace Concourse at Staples Center in Los Angeles

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
is set to finally get his wish.

The NBA's all-time scoring leader will stand outside the Staples Center in Los Angeles in the form of a statue, according to ESPN. The Lakers great has been pushing for the honor for some time, calling his absence from the arena's concourse a "slight."

"I don't understand," Abdul-Jabbar told The Sporting News last year. "It's either an oversight or they're taking me for granted. I'm not going to try to read people's minds, but it doesn't make me happy. It's definitely a slight. I feel slighted."

Abdul-Jabbar made those comments at the unveiling of fellow Laker great Jerry West's statue at the 2011 NBA All-Star Weekend. Magic Johnson and Chick Hearn also have statues outside the Lakers' home.

Bill Russell, another Hall of Fame center whose time cast in bronze was long in coming, is set to have a statue of himself sculpted in Boston in 2013.
