Report: Josh Beckett, Adrian Gonzalez, Carl Crawford Part of Potential Blockbuster Trade to Dodgers

When the Dodgers claimed Adrian Gonzalez on waivers early Friday afternoon, many thought it was just a ploy to express their interest in the All-Star first baseman. Now, it appears there may be much more to that rumor.

The hours leading up to the Red Sox’ 7:05 p.m. start with the Kansas City Royals at Fenway Park have been filled with trade rumors and speculation. First it was the claim on Gonzalez, then a report that pitcher Josh Beckett was also claimed by Los Angeles. But the news just continues to grow.

Now, the two teams appear to be actively discussing a blockbuster deal that would include both Gonzalez and Beckett along with left fielder Carl Crawford and utility infielder Nick Punto, according to ESPN’s Gordon Edes.

FOX Sports reporter Jon Morosi confirmed the rumor through a source and went as far as to call it “close” to being finalized.

There is no indication yet as to who would be coming back to Boston in the deal, but it is likely to be quite a haul, as the Red Sox will be giving up a huge chunk of their starting lineup. Morosi suggested that the Red Sox would receive prospects, and not just salary relief, if the deal does in fact happen.
