Sergio Aguero Proves Dominance Over Lionel Messi, After Being Named Most Influential Argentine

Sergio Agüero is the most influential Argentine, according to a ranking of the top 50 Celebrities from the country of the tango, put together by Forbes magazine.

Among the top 10 are also fellow soccer legends Lionel Messi and Diego Maradona, as well as four other athletes: Manu Ginobili, Carlos Tevez, Juan Martin del Potro and Luis Scola.

Although Messi is in second place on this Forbes list, he greatly outperforms Agüero on both the Forbes list of top 100 celebrites in the world, where Messi is No. 50, and Agüero is not even listed, and in the highest-paid athletes list, where Messi is No. 11 and Aguero is No. 65.

Ginobili is third on this latest list, while Maradona, Agüero’s father-in-law, is fourth.

The parameters Forbes used for the most recent list include statistics from the first six months of 2012, including social media impact, time and presence on radio and television in Argentina and their impact on websites of newspapers and magazines in the country.

Agüero, who currently plays for Manchester City in England where he scored the title-deciding goal in last season’s championship, was top- rated primarily because of his presence on Twitter, where he has 2.4 million followers, while Messi does not have a Twitter account, although he has around 37 million “likes” on Facebook.

For his part, Maradona continues to be the most mentioned celebrity in the digital media of Argentina.
