Dwight Howard Still Not Expected to Be Ready for Start of Lakers Camp

Dwight Howard still is not expected to be ready for the start of training camp.

And, well, that is all.

Howard, who joined the Lakers as part of a four-team trade last month, is rehabbing from surgery in April to address a herniated disk. At the time of the trade, it was reported that Howard would miss the start of the 2012-13 season. Since training camp happens before the season happens, it stood to reason that Howard would not be ready for camp, either.

In case any fans cannot put two and two together, ESPN helpfully reported Friday that Howard's status for the start of the season — and by extension for training camp and the preseason — is in doubt. As Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak has said all along, the Lakers expect Howard back "at some point," which makes sense. It would not have made much sense for the Lakers to trade for Howard if they thought he would never play again.
