Brad Ausmus to Interview With Red Sox on Wednesday

Brad Ausmus is also on Boston’s interview list.

A New England native, the former catcher and current special
assistant to the San Diego Padres is expected to interview on Wednesday. Like
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny and White Sox skipper Robin Ventura did when they were first hired, Ausmus has no
prior managing experience.

But the risks worked out well for the two franchises, as the
Red Sox analyze whether Ausmus could follow that mold.

— Tabbed as Israel’s manager for the 2013 World Baseball Classic

— Served as special assistant to San Diego Padres’ baseball operations in
2012

— Designated as Dodgers manager for a day by Joe Torre in 2009 and 2010

Playing Experience

— Played 18 seasons in Major League Baseball for the Padres, Tigers,
Astros and Dodgers

— Selected to an All-Star Game in 1999 and won three Gold Gloves as a
catcher

— Hit 80 home runs, 607 RBIs and batted .251 for his career

— Led majors in fielding percentage in five of 18 seasons

— Ranked third in major league catching history with 12,839 putouts

— Drafted by Yankees in the 48th round of the 1987 MLB Draft
