Clay Matthews is one of the toughest linebackers in the NFL, but player safety was the subject of the three-time Pro Bowler’s Twitter feed on Monday night.
Matthews took to Twitter during Monday night’s game between the Jets and Texans after a questionable low block on fellow USC alum Brian Cushing.
The injury to Cushing occurred when he was blocked by Jets lineman Matt Slauson at an awkward angle causing the Texan to hit the turf in agonizing pain. The immediate fear for Houston fans is an ACL tear, and the prospect of a fellow player missing the remainder of the season got Matthews’ blood boiling.
If the NFL really wants to increase player safety, start protecting players on BOTH sides of the ball.

Where is the NFL’s protection on blocks below the waist like that on Cushing. Double standard!
