Prince Fielder Lays Out for Foul Popup, Eats Dirt in Process (Video)

California is certainly no stranger to earthquakes, and that includes San Francisco baseball fans, who felt the ground rumble beneath their feet just prior to the 1989 World Series.

Well, the Richter Scale surely moved again during this Fall Classic in the City by the Bay, but this time it had nothing to do with tectonic plates. During the fourth inning of Game 2, Hunter Pence was at the plate and sent a pitch off the hands just wide of first base into foul territory. The ball ended up being out of Tigers first baseman Prince Fielder's reach, but he sure gave 110 percent, diving for the ball on the warning track — and ending up with his face in the dirt in the process.

There's no confirmation on how much Fielder actually moved the needle, but we're sure they felt that one in the upper deck. Check out Fielder's swan dive in the video below.
