Last year, 111.3 million people tuned in to watch the Patriots and the Giants play in the Super Bowl, making it one of the most viewed sporting events on the planet and a natural draw for anyone with the pocket change to pay for an ad. The estimated cost for a 30-second spot at this year's Super Bowl is between $3.7 and $3.8 million.
Here is a list of companies who have already bought spots and will reportedly account for 90 percent of the advertisements during this year's game, according to BusinessInsider.com: Anheuser-Bush InBev, PepsiCo.'s Pepsi, PepsiCo.'s Frito-Lay and Doritos, Cars.com, GoDaddy.com, Audi, Hyundai/Kia, Coca-Cola, Best Buy, Oreo and Mercedes-Benz.
Mercedes-Benz is getting back in the ad game after a year on the sidelines.
"It's a big product year for us next year and the game will be played in
the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, so all the planets are in alignment," Mercedes spokeswoman Donna Boland told AdAge.
Frito-Lay will also be continuing their "Crash the Super Bowl" contest which pits fan-created commercials against each other with money and fame on the line. This year's winner will win the chance to join director Michael Bay in making the next installment of Transformers.
If the winner's ad scores the top spot on USA Today's Ad Meter, the contestant will win a bonus prize of $1 million. Those wishing to enter the contest can upload their submissions to the contest's Facebook page before Nov. 16.
