David Freese had a pretty odd Thanksgiving afternoon.
Around 2:30 p.m., the Cardinals third baseman and 2011 World Series MVP crashed his Range Rover into a tree in an attempt to avoid hitting a deer, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Freese reportedly declined to receive any medical help once officers arrived at the scene, and while he managed to avoid hitting the deer, the 29-year-old’s Range Rover was towed away.
The report indicates that alcohol wasn’t a factor in the accident, which is worth noting because Freese was arrested in December 2009 on suspicion of driving while intoxicated and in September 2007 for public intoxication and obstructing a police officer. Freese was also charged with DWI in Nov. 2002, but accepted a plea deal.
Thursday’s crash was certainly a close call — for the deer and for Freese. Check out a photo of the aftermath below.
