While just about every team in the league got a makeover when Nike unveiled their new NFL uniforms this year, some teams still want to update their look.
For the Rams, that means going retro.
Rams chief operating officer Kevin Demoff said on 101 ESPN on Friday that the team would like to bring back its old white and blue uniforms from the heyday of the Los Angeles Rams. Taking on the design from the 1960s and 1970s would make the uniforms look like the Rams’ current white unis — just without the nice trimmings of gold. (They also had a nice blue version back then.)
The league would have to approve the change, and the Rams aren’t interested in any switches until 2014. St. Louis would phase in the new design by wearing the uniforms for a few games a season, much like NFL teams do now when they pull out retro duds for a game or two.
While the plain white and blue look would certainly add a simplicity and classiness to the Rams’ look, a la the Brooklyn Nets’ approach, it would also be quite a bit of fun if the Rams went medium retro and got the gaudy gold and blue look from a decade or two ago. (Check out a photo of that below.)
Nike has shown that it’s willing to get all creative with the new uniforms, whether the teams incorporate those changes or not. This could be the Rams’ chance for a stylish makeover.
