Report: Indians Sign Mark Reynolds to One-Year, $6 Million Contract

The Indians may have eliminated themselves from the Kevin Youkilis race with their latest signing.

Mark Reynolds agreed to a one-year contract with Cleveland worth $6 million, plus another $1.5 million in incentives, according to Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com. Reynolds will likely play first base for the Indians, according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, though they’re moving forward with Lonnie Chisenhall at third base, which means Youkilis will not be rejoining Terry Francona.

Reynolds hit 23 home runs with 69 RBIs in Baltimore in 2012, while batting .221 with a .763 OPS. Last season was Reynolds’ first as a full-time first baseman.

Even though Youk may not be going to the Indians, that doesn’t make his signing with the Yankees a foregone conclusion, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Youkilis has also received interest from the Dodgers and Mariners.
