Mayor Thomas Menino Refers to Patriots Stars as ‘Vince Wilcock’ and ‘Gonk’ (Video)

Mayor Thomas Menino has made the incredible city of Boston a better place to live, work and play for many, many years. Just don’t ask him to name the town’s sports heroes, unless you’re looking for a good laugh.

Leading up to the Patriots-Ravens AFC Championship Game, Menino and Baltimore mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake agreed to a friendly wager that, according to CSNNE.com, involves seafood, hot sauce, pasta, chocolate, stuffed cabbage, fruit salad and more.

During a video message to the Baltimore mayor, Menino offered a little smack talk. As expected, a few word fumbles ensued, such as calling Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork “Vince Wilcock” and referring to Rob Gronkowski as “Gonk.”

Menino has been having a hard time remembering names and nicknames of Boston’s star athletes for years now. He once referred to Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo as “K.J.” and “Hondo.” Menino once gave “Jason Varitek” credit for Adam Vinatieri‘s field goal that gave the Patriots their first Super Bowl victory. He’s also called wide receiver Wes Welker “Wes Wekler” and Gronkowski “Rob Grabowski.”
