Wade Boggs Buys Part of Field of Dreams Property With Plans for 24-Field Baseball, Softball Complex

After two years on the market, the Field of Dreams movie site has sold for $3.4 million.

Former Red Sox, Yankees and Devil Rays third baseman Wade Boggs is part of the group that bought the property, according to CBS Sports. Boggs and Go the Distance Baseball LLC plan on turning the property into a 24-field baseball and softball complex called All-Star Ballpark Heaven. The finished complex will cost its investors $38 million and will include an indoor training facility and 60-team clubhouse. Phase 1 of the project, including the construction of 12 fields, is set to open in 2014, according to the The Dyersville Commerical.

The 193-acre film site currently features one baseball field, a two-bedroom farmhouse and cornfields. There are 10 investors as part of Go the Distance, but only Boggs has been named.
