Report: Forward D.J. White to Sign With Celtics Within 24 Hours

Help is on the way for the Celtics, though it is not the earth-shattering kind that fans might hope for.

D.J. White, a 6-foot-9 forward who last played for the Bobcats in 2011-12, will sign with the Celtics “in the next 24 hours,” Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports. The Celtics had agreed to a deal with White last week, but a delay in receiving a letter of clearance from his team in China had held up signing a formal contract.

White, 26, will join a Celtics team in dire need of frontcourt help, although the Indiana alum will not provide the defensive or rebounding relief the team sorely needs. He blocks less than one shot per 36 minutes in his four-year career, and last season with Charlotte he grabbed only 10.9 percent of available rebounds when he was on the court. (League average is roughly 10 percent.)

He can make shots, however. He finishes better than average at the rim and on short jumpers, with a mid-range jump shot he makes 42 percent of the time.
