Report: Phillies ‘Actively Pursuing’ Trade for Giancarlo Stanton

This one would come as a surprise, but crazier things have happened — maybe.

The Phillies are looking to trade for Giancarlo Stanton, according to Chris May of CBS Philly. It’s rare for a player to be traded during spring training, and it’s also rare for a player of Stanton’s skill level to be traded at all. A team trading a high-caliber player like Stanton during spring training is very seldom seen.

Surely every team would be willing to trade for Stanton if the offer is right, but there is essentially no reason for the Marlins to part with the star outfielder, especially not to a divisional rival. The fact that Philadelphia has just two players on Baseball America’s Top 100 Prospects List — pitcher Jesse Biddle at No. 89 and shortstop Roman Quinn at 100 — doesn’t help matters either.
