Brazilian Striker Vagner Love Blames ‘Too Much Sex’ As Reason for Disappointing Play

You could call him Vagner Love … Machine.

The aptly nicknamed Brazilian striker has been a prolific goal scorer for most of his professional career, but he claims that one barren spell in 2011 was the result of too much off-the-field scoring, according to Russia Today.

In an interview with Brazilian Playboy Magazine, Love — whose real name is Vagner Silva de Souza — explained that boredom, coupled with a language barrier between him and his Russian teammates, caused him to stay home and have a lot of sex, which was at the root of his disappointing play.

“Before leaving for Flamengo for the second time I felt very lonely in Moscow,” Love said. “Besides me, there were no other Brazilians on the team. I asked for permission to stay at home because it was hard for me without the language. But there wasn’t much to do at home, so I had sex all the time. I think that’s why I was too relaxed and calm on the pitch.”

The Brazilian Casanova also answered questions about Russia’s notoriously cold winters, adding that he’s always conducted his love-making in reasonable climates.

“In winter it’s warm in Russian homes, restaurants and shops,” Love added. “The problems begin when you go out on the street. I never tried making love at minus 27 [-16.6 Fahrenheit] or minus 30 Celsius [-22 Fahrenheit]. I’m not crazy.”

When on the field, Love has turned heads with not only his brightly colored dreadlocks, but also his ability to find the back of the net — Love has scored more goals in the Russian Premier League than any other foreigner in its history. Perhaps the attraction of returning to a championship-caliber club lured Love back to Moscow. Or maybe it was the women.

“The Russian girls have the most gorgeous faces in the world,” he noted. “It was great for me in Russia. But I haven’t been with a large number of Russian women.”

Love will certainly look to build on his impressive career goal tally, and continue to propel first-place CSKA Moscow to a Russian Premier League Championship. Let’s just hope he has enough energy.
