Cheerleader Wipes Out During Hawks Game, Appears to Be OK After Classic Banana Peel Fall (Video)

Maybe she should have given her sneakers the old Larry Bird spit treatment before heading onto the court for this one.

An Atlanta Hawks cheerleader was released from Atlanta Medical Center on Monday night after taking a spill during an in-game routine, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. While cheerleaders are known for high-flying stunts and pretty involved gymnastics repertoires, what made this cheerleader’s tumble so strange was that she wasn’t really pushing any boundaries when she went down. Rather, she looked like she fell victim to a cartoon-like prank, with only the proverbial banana peel absent from this mishap.

The cheerleader, identified as Kristen, was just zipping through her routine in the break before the fourth quarter when one leg-kick went awry. As she snapped her leg into the air in unison with the rest of the cheerleaders, Kristen’s plant leg suddenly went out from under her, sending her to the ground, where she appeared to hit her head. The scary head hit was what brought paramedics onto the court to check to see if she was OK. She was then sent to the local hospital.

While the neck and head hit looked bad when Kristen first fell, she was released after the examination, and Hawks coach Larry Drew gave an update after the game.

“Our best wishes are with the cheerleader who had the incident on the court,” he said, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “She is doing well, from what I’m told. We are hoping that she is OK and are keeping things in perspective.”

Still unsolved is what sent Kristen to the ground. She was wearing the same shoes as the rest of the cheerleaders, but the floor must have been pretty slippery where she ended up planting. Either that, or there’s a rogue banana peel out there somewhere.

And that’s how a catcher, unassisted, tags out a man trying to steal. Well done, Yadier Molina.
