If you grew up in the 1990s and/or played video games in the 90s, there’s a good chance the unmistakable sound of a slap shot and a whining goal siren are music to your ears.
That familiar chorus, of course, belonged to NHL 94, one of the most influential hockey (or sports) video games in the history of gaming. The good people at EA Sports revolutionized hockey video games with that game, and the game made a lasting impact on anyone who grew up playing it. NHL 94 even led to a memorable scene from the movie Swingers as well.
The game also made its impact on some of today’s NHLers. In celebration of the game’s 20th anniversary, the league is taking a deeper look at the influential video game.
