Daisuke Matsuzaka Released From Minor League Contract by Indians

Daisuke Matsuzaka‘s reunion with Terry Francona was short-lived.

The Cleveland Indians released the right-handed pitcher Sunday. Matsuzaka was signed to a minor league deal Feb. 10.

Matsuzaka pitched in four games with the Indians during spring training. He allowed 10 hits in eight innings but surrendered just two runs for a 2.25 ERA. He struck out three and allowed one walk and one home run.

Matsuzaka drew interest from the Astros and Marlins before deciding to sign with Cleveland.

The Japanese product started 11 games last season for the Red Sox. He had an 8.28 ERA with a 1.708 WHIP. He went 1-7 and struck out 41 in 45 2/3 innings.
